PT Ferro Construction is honored to announce that we have been awarded the contract for the Old Town North Roadway Reconstruction project for the Village of Plainfield.

This significant project was approved during the Village Board meeting on May 6 and will enhance the infrastructure and quality of life for residents and businesses in the Old Town North neighborhood.

Project Overview

The Old Town North reconstruction project covers vital streets in the area, including Lockport Street, Eastern Avenue, Bartlett Avenue, Center Street, Amboy Street, and Evans Street. Our work will begin adjacent to Indian Trail Middle School on Eastern Avenue and the south half of Lockport Street (from Route 59 to the railroad tracks). To ensure minimal disruption, Lockport Street will remain open to westbound traffic only, with eastbound traffic being temporarily redirected. Detailed scheduling information regarding closures will be provided as the project progresses.

Why This Project is Important

This comprehensive reconstruction project aims to modernize the neighborhood’s infrastructure, providing numerous benefits:

• Roadway Reconstruction: Upgrading the streets will improve travel conditions and safety.

• Sidewalk Replacement & ADA Improvements: Ensuring all sidewalks are safe and accessible for every resident.

• Driveway Apron Replacement: Enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of driveways.

• Decorative Streetlights: Adding charm and improving nighttime visibility.

• Drainage Work: Preventing flooding and improving water management.

• Parkway Restoration: Beautifying the neighborhood and enhancing green spaces.

Value to the Community

We spoke with Mayor John F. Argoudelis and he discussed with us how residents and business owners in Plainfield will see significant improvements in their daily lives.

Enhanced roadways and pedestrian pathways will increase safety and accessibility, while the aesthetic upgrades will make the neighborhood more appealing. These improvements are expected to boost property values and attract new businesses, fostering economic growth.

Protection of Historical Landmarks

Throughout the project, PT Ferro Construction and the Village of Plainfield are committed to preserving the historical landmarks in the area. We understand the cultural and historical significance of these sites and will take necessary measures to protect them during the reconstruction process.

Railroad Pedestrian Crossing Improvements

In addition to roadway enhancements, the Village has secured grant funding for crucial improvements at the railroad crossings on Center Street, Eastern Avenue, and Lockport Street. Working closely with CN Rail, the upgrades will include new pedestrian gates, upgraded crossing pads, and new pedestrian crossings to ensure safe passage for all.

Project Phases and Updates

Phase 1 (Fall 2022): Completed utility improvements on Lockport Street and Eastern Avenue.

Phase 2 (August 2023): Focused on water main and service replacements, and drainage improvements on Bartlett Avenue, Center Street, Amboy Street, and Evans Street.

Upcoming Phases: Roadway and sidewalk improvements across the project area, are slated to begin in 2024, with completion anticipated by Summer 2025.
